For each site the monitoring system estimates the annual consumption and the annualised losses based on the continuous minimum flow. From this the percentage losses and annual cost of the losses can be calculated.

Across all 72 sites the annualised consumption is 318,000m3 of which 114,000m3 or 36% were losses. The cost of these losses is £229,000 per year.

The average consumption per site is 4,420 m3 per year with 1,580 m3 losses costing each site £3,175 per year1.

Financial calculations are based on 2011 – 12 volumetric water and sewerage charges of £2.028 / cubic metre for each property. Two of the sites are charged for water supply only which is reflected in the data.
