Demeter Limited are delighted to have become a PAWS partner

PAWS was established in response to the Millennium Development Goal targets to reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation by 2015. PAWS aims to help improve access to safe water and sanitation for people in three African countries, using expertise from the UK water sector¹.

Andy Smedley, one of the founding Directors of Demeter carried out project work for PAWS in 2006, spending time in Uganda helping the Department for Water Development to improve the provision of water services to 57 townships. Of the time spent in Uganda, Andy says..

“The work I did for PAWS was my first time in sub-Saharan Africa, going to Uganda was a daunting prospect, I had no idea what to expect, what I found was a beautiful country with the most kind and hospitable people. The experience had a major effect on me, and I want to make sure that I can build on this experience in the future.”

It is our intention as Demeter to link the benefits we achieve in the UK; that is, saving water, to devising a scheme to ensure that we can also bring benefits to people in developing countries.

In the short term, contributing to the work of PAWS, albeit whilst in the UK, will play some contribution, but it is our intention that as soon as we achieve a sound financial footing we will provide greater and more direct support.
